Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ade Coker, has issued a stern warning to leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to divide the country.
Speaking in relation to the NPP's quest for a new voters' register, the NDC Regional Chairman noted that the time has come for the leaders to focus on nation building and not dwell on seemingly superfluous issues.
Apparently, to him, the NPP is making "frivolous and vexatious" arguments by calling on the Electoral Commission (EC) to change the voters' register.
The NPP investigation team discovered 76, 286 voters who bore same names and faces on the Ghanaian and Togolese voters' registers, using the facial biometric recognition technology.
The NPP Running Mate Dr. Bawumia also claimed there were unusual increases in the register.
“One cannot credibly explain for example how increases in the voters’ register of magnitudes exceeding 40% can take place. Where did the people come from?” “...quite a large number of the constituencies with unusual increases in the voters’ register are those from neighboring countries. Take the Western region for example, where notwithstanding the oil find, Sekondi and Takoradi saw a 5% decrease in registered voters while Suaman and Nzema East saw increases in the voters register by 23% and 27.7% respectively,” he claimed.
But addressing the issue on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Ade Coker advised the NPP not to redirect the focus of the nation.
“Please don’t let us divide our country. This country, our founding fathers who governed it for us said one country, one nation; one common destiny…Ghana is not ready for this kind of battles. We’re not ready. There’s a lot of things that we must do. Let’s focus on how to build our economy. That’s important; how to sustain this country. This is important but not this kind of frivolous and vexatious allegations.” |
