Spare Ghanaians Your "Hypocritical Sermon" On "Illegality" Of Doctor's Strike - Atik Tells Prez Mahama

Aspiring General Secretary of People's National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has lambasted President John Dramani Mahama, claiming that the President is interested in perhaps extending the strike action by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

According to him, the President as the the first Gentleman and leader of the nation should watch his utterances so far as the conditions of service of the striking doctors are concerned.

But to him, President John Mahama is rather inflaming passions by his adamant stance on the doctors' issue.

President John Mahama responding to the striking medical doctors indicated that the government will not concede to the demands of the doctors since it has already drawn the budget for the State.

On Wednesday, August 12; President Mahama speaking on State broadcaster, Uniq FM called the doctors' strike as illegal and further toughened his decision, saying "nobody must die because of an illegal strike. The strike is illegal, absolutely illegal."

Addressing the President's statements on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme, Atik Mohammed advised him (President Mahama) to "soften" his position.

He recounted that in current situation that the nation is plunged into; the citizenry do not need such statements to get the doctors to resume work.

In that circumstance, what do you do? You have to soften your stance. And what the President said, he did not help matters. He did not help matters two weeks ago. He did not help matters yesterday. If you’re asking that they should come and let’s negotiate, they should go back to work; you don’t speak the way you do if you want them to come back to work.”

He further noted that there have been several national laws that the President and government appointees have flouted so to him; President Mahama should spare Ghanaians his sermon about "illegality" of the doctors' strike.

This hypocrisy is what kills me. How many laws haven’t we flouted in this country?" he asked.
