Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to call off their strike and go back to the negotiation table with the government.
According to Mr. Ofosu Ampofo, negotiation is a gradual process and so, the doctors should not be in a rush to receive immediate results.
In his conviction, the government has not entirely refused to cut the doctors a better deal but they have to resume work to save the lives of innocent Ghanaians.
“Why should you go on strike whiles you’re negotiating conditions of service…why do you strike in 2015 when your demands are supposed to be met in 2016?” he queried the striking medical doctors.
“…we have a big national issue on our hand. Even if one soul loses his or her life, there’s nothing you can do to regain life that is lost."
The NDC National Vice Chairman noted on Peace FM's"Kokrokoo" that sometimes negotiations take a whole year before the parties come to a consensus over an issue.
“Negotiation is a process. Sometimes negotiation can take years…The fact that you’re negotiating, until the two parties come to a compromise; you have not negotiated. You have not finished the negotiation process. So, in all this process, it is never true that the government never responded for the 8 months. The response is that negotiation is ongoing…The appeal is that our medical officers must heed to the call and go back while they negotiate,” he said. |
