The Editor-in-Chief of New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako has condemned President John Mahama's recent address to Ghanaians and the New Patriotic Party.
Speaking to a crowd as part of his #changinglives tour, President Mahama questioned the moral right of the New Patriotic Party to accuse him of being "incompetent."
He stressed that he can take accusations from Ex-Presidents Kufour and Rawlings but not people who have "never ever come near the Presidency."
Singling out NPP's Bawumia, the President said; “Did you hear Bawumia say incompetent Mahama? You’ve never held any responsibility anywhere near the presidency before; you don’t know what it is like to be President.
“I’ll take that word from Kufour or from Rawlings because they’ve been there before. All of you guys [NPP critics] have never ever come near the presidency. [Do] you know what it takes to be a President? And you stand and say incompetent Mahama administration."
But Kweku Baako shared an opposing opinion.
To him, the President shouldn't treat constructive criticisms from Ghanaians as an affront to his administration.
He expounded that any government that fails to develop the economy is termed as incompetent and this doesn't connote a verbal abuse on the person at the helm of affairs.
“It’s so obvious that it is not an insult to say someone is incompetent. It’s so elementary. You’ve not insulted him…For me, it’s a critique. In fact, it’s not even a harsh one. Was it a personal attack or was a critique of the handling of the State of Affairs? I don’t see it as a personal thing. I don’t think he’s being singled out as a person and being told that he’s incompetent…It’s not an insult to describe an administration that it’s incompetent or inept.”
"Those who say it is an incompetent handling of the situation are entitled to it. You can’t stop people from criticising you in a multi-party democracy.
The Senior Journalist believed the most perfect response was to have challenged the claims by providing contrary evidence which will expose whoever made the comments but “not to suggest that he is insulting you".
"Sometimes that is a sign of weakness and a sign of a coward who is not prepared to fight," he added.
He further stated on Peace FM's Kokrokoo that the President goofed for claiming Ex-President Kufour was being insulted by his own party members.
President Mahama, addressing the crowd, further noted that one Aunty Bee (who he claimed is an NPP member) once hurled insults at President Kufour and blamed him for the woes of the NPP.
He therefore took refuge from the fact that the NPP could make their own leader a target.
But to Mr. Baako, if he "were the President, I would not have raised that particular matter. I would not have raised it. And he’s raised in a way to show that even (President) Kufour is a target of the NPP. How? Assuming without admitting that Aunty Bee is an NPP member and had attacked Kufour, you cannot assign that responsibility to the NPP. So, on this score, he has failed again.” |
