NPP Not Really After New Voter's Register...They Just Want To Attack STL - Kabila

James Kwabena Bomfeh of the Conventions People's Party (CPP) has hit back at the minority New Patriotic Party (NPP)'s claims over the current voters register being bloated.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, James Kwabena Bomfeh, also called Kabila held strongly that the NPP's arguments over the voters register are flawed.

According to him, the NPP is not calling for a new voters register for national interest but rather for their own selfish gains.

Following the Electoral Commission (EC) two-day forum on the voters register where various stakeholders shared their opinions on the pros and cons of having a new register, the New Patriotic Party would not bow out.

The party insists that the EC should change the register and as a result, has come out with shocking revelations.

The role played by Superlock Technologies Limited (STL) in the country's electoral process was challenged by the NPP and other pressure groups.

The Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), Movement for Change (MFC), CHAMPS, Alliance for Accountable Governance and the NPP claimed that the "STL compiled a register which allowed multiple registrations in selected areas of the country to remain on it."

This was revealed by David Asante, the convener for LMVCA, in a statement.

"The pressure groups believe that there are some two million ‘ghost’ names in the existing register which was compiled ahead of the last (2012) general elections; for which reason they are pushing for an entirely new one because they believe that a mere audit could not make it credible for the 2016 general elections," as cited in the September 15th edition of the Daily Guide.

Commenting further on the issue, Kabila believed the NPP is hiding behind their petition for a new voters register just to attack STL.

The call for a new register is not truly about a new register. It’s about fighting STL. The attack is now showing its real face after Charlotte Osei’s responses…"

He insisted that neither the Electoral Commission nor the voters register is NPP's problem.

"If STL is our (political party's) problem, in that they were contracted by the EC to do the biometric registration and provide the facilities we used, why did we go to hide behind the call for a new register…? The goal post is shifting. Now, it is not about the register per se but the vendor contracted by the Electoral Commission?” he rhetorically quizzed.
