VIDEO: The Plight of 60 Orphans...They Sleep In a Single Room And Have No Food

About 60 children of the Ayensuano constituency have been left to the mercy of nature as they live in a very deplorable state in an orphanage home at Otoase.

Orphans queue to bathe
The children who deserve to equally taste the national cake have been struck by misery and are yet to feel the tender heart of Ghanaians.

The orphanage which is being managed by a visually-impaired man houses all these 60 children who live off each day in a miserable state and cannot afford to enjoy certain basic amenities like proper classroom structures, toilet facilities and other infrastructure to remedy their situation.

Acting on a tip-off, UTV news crew went to Otoase with their cameras to give a vivid account of the plight of these children.

The children, both males and females, are all housed inside two separate stuffy rooms where they live and sleep.

In the nights, they cram up in the dark rooms and contend with mosquitoes. They sleep on mats and cloths on the floor to hope for a bright morning, the next day.

The children who range from 4 months to about 13 years all sleep on the floor, inside a small unventilated room. Some were even caught on camera sleeping in a pool of urine. How miserable could this be?

As if to compound their plight; they wake up in the morning and are all bathed in one basin of foamed water, with a single sponge and towel.

Toothbrush may be common but not to these children as they have to depend on chopped sticks to keep their teeth neat.

During breakfast, they are all fed from one basin where they drink watery tea and a tin of milk is poured in it to give it a slight taste. Then the authorities break just a loaf of bread for all the 60 children who do not get the luxury of a second appeal.

They source water from stream meters away from their place of residence. The dirty stream is the main source of water that these children and their guardians use to cook, bath and virtually do everything with it.

These children, who are basically orphans and some dumped by their parents, are extremely at a disadvantage.
