Why Sack ECG Boss; Give Your Reasons - Kwesi Pratt To Gov't

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has questioned the decision to dismiss Rev. Ing. William Hutton-Mensah; the immediate past Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, without any offering of an explanation by government..

Speaking on Peace FM's Morning Show "Kokrokoo", Kwesi Pratt implored the Presidency to state the reasons for reassigning the ECG Boss.

According to him, without stating reasons, the government's directive leaves room for the public to delve into the realm of speculations.

“Maybe there may be good reasons for removing him…But I don’t know those reasons…Since, they announced till today; all the efforts I’ve done to find good reasons for it, I can’t find one,” he said.

Rev William Hutton-Mensah was relieved of his position as the MD of the power distributor by President John Mahama last week.

When news of his dismissal went viral last Friday, some workers of ECG angrily protested his removal and demanded the re-instatement of their former boss and They even threatened to cut off power to the whole country should their demand not be met.

Rev. Hutton-Mensah was in a statement from the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Prosper Bani, ordered to report to the Energy Ministry for re-assignment.

The Head of Procurement of ECG, Robert Dwamena has since been appointed to act.

Speaking to the issue, the seasoned journalist wondered what necessitated the dismissal of the ECG Boss who until the recent erratic power cuts in the nation, had remained at post for over 30 years.

“Shouldn’t there be reasons for removing him? Because if he’s performing well at ECG, why is he being removed? Is he being removed to the Ministry because there’s a shortfall in personnel at the Ministry or because there’s a kind of job at the Ministry that somebody cannot do and due to his hard work at the ECG, he’s asked to go to do it?” he quizzed.
