Former
National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony
Abayifa Karbo, has made a solemn call on the nine-member panel sitting
on the election dispute between leaders of the opposition New Patriotic
Party and the Electoral Commission to be ‘bold’ even as the nation
awaits their verdict.
According to him, there is historical
precedent where people meted out violent attacks on judges but believed
it is about time the judges become fearless as they give their ruling on
the case.
“We have been in this country before when judges have
been pounded; when judges were murdered because they stood out for the
truth” he sought to remind the nation but stressed that “for the first
time, I want to acknowledge the slogan that Nana Konadu Agyemang
Rawlings was using in her campaign to become flagbearer of the NDC. She
talked about being bold. It is time that the judges show bravery.”
The
former NPP National Executive, who took keen interest in the slogan by
the 2012 Presidential Aspirant of the National Democratic Party (NDP)
Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings prior to the National Congress of the
ruling party on on April 13, 2011during her contest with the late
President Mills, also appealed to the general public to offer prayers
for the Justices.
He further commended the petitioners for pursuing their case in the law court in order not to foment chaos in the nation.
He
said during a panel discussion programme on Oman FM that the live
telecast of the case evidently revealed “the admissions of Afari Gyan to
over voting. We saw the admissions of Afari Gyan to unsigned pink
sheets. We saw the admissions of Afari Gyan to duplicate; triplicate,
quadruplicate serial numbers…The NPP has fought a good case. The
petitioners have fought a good case. And the petitioners’ decision to go
to court, that was even the first commitment to peace because the
alternative of not going to court would have been disastrous.
“It
is not also possible that in the scheme of what we have all seen,
anybody can write off and say that the petitioners have no case. It’s
not possible. Because this verdict that is going to come will determine
future elections in this country, will put this country on the right
track.” |
