Ex-Prez Kufuor Admonishes Media Practitioners

Not exactly the picture
Former President John Agyekum Kufour has charged media practitioners in the country to effectively to execute their duties as watchdogs for the nation.

In a speech read on behalf of the former President by his Spokesperson, Frank Agyekum, at the National Peace Summit at the State House in Accra, President Kufour reminded the media of its responsibilities and urged journalists to be circumspect in their reportage in order to avert any dangers.

Coming on the back of arguments made by politicians on media platforms concerning the outcome of the pending election case before the Supreme Court, he cautioned the media not to inflame passions and create unnecessary tensions in the public domain.

He admonished media practitioners not to misuse their responsibilities as watchdogs over societies, explaining that “as mediums of mass communication, they must be the first to be aware that what is said or written in their mediums has an immediate and far-reaching effect for good or for bad. When we throw caution to the wind, we reap chaos and anarchy.”

He also called on Ghanaians to pray for the “safety, continuous peace and prosperity of our dear nation.”
