Sammy
Awuku, aspiring National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party,
has backed indicting remarks made by a former General Secretary of the
ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the ruling party is made
up of a bunch of "greedy thieves".
The former NDC Chief Scribe,
Dr. Josiah Aryeh argued that the government had hired "thieves" to hold
offices in the current Mahama administration.
Speaking at the
party's regional delegates' congress held in Kumasi over the weekend,
Dr. Josiah Aryeh, who is now the National Chairman of the National
Democratic Party (NDP), opined that the situation has denied the nation
of "good leaders" whose competence can help transform the fortunes of
Ghana.
"I compare certain people [in government]...to a gang of
thieves; they go stealing in the night" and "keep the booty to
themselves...how come that when given the freedom of choice to out of
our own volition we have been such a way that we end up in a situation
and the condition of real (sic) leaderlessness; yes indeed we are
leaderless," he charged.
Also, speaking on Oman FM's National Agenda,
Sammy Awuku concurred with the former NDC capo and stressed that
government’s actions and inactions have left the country with no hope
for the future.
He stated that the government has impoverished
Ghanaians by increasing taxes and doubling the prices of petroleum
products; something he believed has had a telling effect on the
livelihood of Ghanaians.
He also bemoaned government's inability to curb the corruptible economic situation in the country.
Alluding
to the construction of the Bui dam which begun under the Kufour
administration, Sammy Awuku claimed the ruling party's General
Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketia, who once served as a member of the
Board of Directors overseeing the work, made huge capital out of the
project by supplying blocks for the construction of the Bui dam.
Though
strong open dissent met his (Asiedu Nketia’s) personal involvement in
the project because they argued he was exploiting the opportunity
granted him by the government at that time, General Mosquito is now said
to have been elevated from Board member to Chairman of the Board in
charge of the project by President John Mahama.
Contributing to
the station’s panel discussion programme, Sammy Awuku wondered the kind
of influence that would be exerted by the NDC General Secretary now that
he has been given a new position over the Bui dam.
Thus, the
aspiring NPP National Youth Organiser stressed that he will not pour
cold water on Dr Josiah Aryeh’s remarks, because to him, there may be an
iota of truth in what he (Josiah) said regarding his former party and
government.
