Several political parties have been formed times in memorial to fight different battles in order to survive. Some have had to ensure that they consolidate their foundations and enhance their unity so as to keep their party running.

As power may not ever cease to exist, political parties also will continue to project their hopes with particular focus on attaining power to govern.

Ghana has seen the emergence of parties, some breakaway, like the Convention People's Party (CPP), People's National Convention (PNC), National Democratic Party (NDP), the ruling National Democratic Congress and the major opposition party; New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A couple of months ago, grapevine had it that a new political party was springing up from the heart of the NPP, even as it was gearing up to elect new Executives.

And it appears there is some truth in the report.

Former Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has given credence to what were initially rumours.

He has hinted of plans to form a new political party together with a couple of other bigwigs within the NPP.

According to him, the party which is dubbed the "People's Liberation Party" (PLP) will have the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong as National Chairman.

He made the startling disclosure on Oman FM’s political analysis programme, “National Agenda”.

Kofo Jumah also revealed that he will be the Presidential candidate of the yet-to-be formed PLP.

“We have established our own party. Haven’t you heard about ‘People’s Liberation Party’? Kennedy Agyapong is the National Chairman and …Maxwell Kofi Jumah is the presidential candidate. Hon. Balado is the Running mate. He’s been inducted into the campaign.

“Ken is the financier and I’m also backing it with my wisdom.”

Despite this news, the question however remains unanswered whether the PLP will become a force to reckon with.
