Forgive Me For Saying This; But Prez Mahama Is The "Chief Vulture" - Nana Akomea

Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea says President John Dramani Mahama is a "vulture" for failing to curb flooding in Accra.

Making his submissions on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Nana Akomea pilloried the President and his state agencies for failing to enforce bye-laws and regulations regarding the citing of buildings on waterways.

According to him, buildings are supposed to be constructed some 30metres away from storm drains yet that has not been adhered to.

Reacting to the recent flooding incident in Accra, Nana Akomea cited places like Asylum down, Adenta, Sodom and Gomorrah among others where such regulations appear to have been breached, putting the lives of residents in those areas in jeopardy.

According to him, the Odorna River at Circle was constructed to serve as a conduit for water to flow through to the sea but unfortunately some places in the capital without proper drains have blocked the flow of the water.

This, he said, is a major cause of the floods in Accra.

To Nana Akomea, what the country needs to control the perennial flooding is a good nationwide plan; something that he believes is missing in the Mahama government.

Nana Akomea told host Kwami Sefa Kayi there should be a better plan for restructuring the capital to avert the recurrence of floods.

It would be recalled that President John Dramani Mahama, when he paid a visit to the scene of the flood-induced fire disaster that occurred at the Goil Filling Station next to the GCB Bank Circle Tower branch in Accra last Wednesday, bemoaned the behaviour of Ghanaians when it comes to implementing measures that can help avert such disasters especially during the rainy season.

"A lot of people have lost their lives. I am at a loss for words to express how I feel, many of them through the floods and then many of them through the fire incident that took place here as the result of the explosion that took place in the filling station located right here. We have to take some measures to be able to avoid this in the future, ...I mean this loss of lives is catastrophic…we shouldn’t continue to be like the vulture who says he would roof his house when the rain stops. Year-in-year-out this continues to happen and until we attack it scientifically and strategically we will continue to have these problems,” he stated.

But summing up his submissions on Tuesday's edition of Kokrokoo, Nana Akomea said it was inappropriate for the president to liken the attitude of Ghanaians to that of a vulture when he himself has exhibited similar symptoms.

He described President Mahama as a "Chief vulture" because he has since 2012 failed to deliver on his promises.

The President says we sometimes behave like vultures…forgive me for saying this, but I believe the President is the chief vulture…,” he said while commenting on the flood situation in the country.

"The President, himself, is the Chief vulture because the statements he’s made from 2012 till now have not seen the light of the day. As soon as he says it and the sun rises, then he suddenly forgets. Then he will say the same thing another year, when the floods occur and properties are destroyed, he will then say the same thing again. So, it is true that we’re vultures but he is our leader," he added.
