WAEC Paper Leakage: MP Calls For Severest Of Punishment For Culprits

Member of Parliament for Bia East constituency, Richard Acheampong has called for the severest of punishment from the Education Ministry and the Bureau of National Investigations on culprits in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) leakage scandal.

Contributing to Peace FM's political programme "Kokrokoo", Hon. Acheampong told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that any person who is incriminated in the scandal must be brought to book.

According to him, it is a shameful act to see such mass leakage of examination papers in the country.

He however wondered why the school children should be blamed and made to suffer for the lapses at WAEC which may have caused the paper leak.

Who are those who set the questions? Where do we print the questions? What type of security surrounds the distribution…I am glad that the BNI has stepped in to investigate it but we pray that those who are involved; they should be punished severely,” he said.

Hon. Acheampong further expressed worry over the cancellation and postponement of the papers since it may traumatize some students partaking in the BECE.

He was displeased with the action by the WAEC officials recounting that some of the students at villages may not have been privy to the questions which were leaked because they do not enjoy the luxury of social media.

He therefore appealed to the authorities to put the right mechanisms in place to forestall future occurrences.
