Ghanaians Should Blame Themselves For Breeding "Arrogant and Irresponsible" Gov't - Kwamena Duncan

Kwamena Duncan has blamed Ghanaians for breeding "arrogant" leaders in the country.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", the Central Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwamena Duncan expressed disappointment in the citizens of the nation for failing to assert their positions on national issues.

According to him, Ghanaians seem to have failed to put the current administration on her toes and as a result, have been nurturing an "arrogant and irresponsible" government.

Kwamena Duncan, speaking in relation to the strike action by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), labeled the current administration as "poor inefficient managers" of the country.

He bemoaned the government's failure to streamline the conditions of service of the striking medical doctors and convince them to resume work.

If you don’t get an assertive country, assertive citizens, assertive people; government will always remain arrogant and to some extent irresponsible…We need to place the blame where it ought to be placed. It is ourselves. We’re not an assertive country. We’re not assertive people. We do not indeed see where that problem is coming from and squarely place it there. It’s Ghanaians, that’s our nature. And in that case, we make people in government arrogant.

To him, Ghanaians should drum into the heads of government appointees that they are "here to manage and to provide leadership", for that matter they are "not over and above any other Ghanaian.”

He however appealed to the government to negotiate with the doctors and ensure that workers in the country receive a fair share of their labour.

Government, you do your part. You carry your responsibilities and you expect your workers to do same…Government is woefully failing.”
