GMA Strike: The Only Way Out Is Reference To Law & Order - Kwesi Pratt

Kwesi Pratt Jnr., Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper, has called on both government and the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to stop litigating over the doctors' demands for conditions of service.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Kokrokoo on Peace FM, Mr. Pratt advised both parties to refer to the laws of the country as the final arbiter in the conundrum.

He appealed to the GMA to heed Ghanaian calls on them to resume work since human lives are at stake.

Kwesi Pratt wondered why the striking doctors seem adamant to return to work and sought to find out alternatives that could help convince them.

According to him, even if the doctors will not listen to socio-economic commentators like himself; "what about the others?"

"What about the others...Former President, Sitting President, opposition leaders, all the political parties, churches, religious leaders, Chiefs, everybody, students… who have also pleaded with them to resume work?" he further asked.

Though admitting that the doctors deserve better conditions of service, he however found it ridiculous that by virtue of their profession, a member would request that they either pay less for their medical bills or go for free medical attention.

To him, such privilege is not a "condition that should be given to doctors because they're doctors. Every Ghanaian deserves that too."

Mr. Pratt further chided government for failing to resolve the doctors' conflict.

In his earnest conviction, the only solution is "reference to law and order."
