Kwesi Nyantakyi Must Step Down; Whether Black Stars Win African Cup or Not - Countryman Songo

Kwesi Nyantakyi

Popular Sports Presenter, Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly called Countryman Songo has reiterated that President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi should step down after the African Nations Cup.

According to Countryman Songo, Kwesi Nyantakyi is "tired" and so called for his immediate resignation.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme, Countryman Songo held strongly that whether the Black Stars win the Nations Cup or not; the GFA Boss shouldn't remain in office.

This is because, to him, the GFA Boss has outlived his relevance as head of the Football Association.

“We should change Kwesi Nyantakyi. He is tired...Whether he will bring the cup home or not [though I want the cup because I will be the first person to jubilate] but they have squandered our money for too long.

"They have misappropriated taxpayer’s monies for too long. We need to fire [fire] them to bring the cup home but it doesn’t mean that winning the cup shames anybody or show that Kwesi Nyantakyi’s work is pleasing. The work he has been doing for 10 years now has reached its end. He lacks ideas and so he deserves to be changed.”

He further insisted that soccer fans in the country should not let the success of the Black Stars in the AFCON woo them so much so that they easily forget about the misconduct of the Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga and the football administrators.

He called on Ghanaians to ensure that the Minister discloses the budget for the AFCON and also make account for all the expenses they made during the tournament.

This he stressed should be the guiding principles for every Ghanaian in order to make the leaders accountable and also improve the economy.

“We have to keep fighting. As we are moving forward, then we are winning more trophies but the country [the economy] must improve. The better Ghana agenda must move on. Better Ghana Sports should move on. It is not about just winning the trophy…" he said.
