Information reaching Peacefmonline.com indicates that the National Organizer and National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu and Sammy Awuku have been invited by the Accra Police Command.
Though reasons for the invitation are sketchy,Peacefmonline.com is reliably informed that the NPP leaders have been invited for interrogation regarding yesterday's "Won Gbo" Demonstration.
The highly attended "Won Gbo" Demo which saw in attendance thousands of the demonstrators march against the erratic power supply in Ghana, was led by NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo and other party stalwarts.
The demonstrators expressed their worry and frustration over the inability of the Mahama administration to solve the power crises.
It began at the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in the morning and ended at the Hearts of Oak Park at about 1.45pm.
The organisers agreed not to use the Central Business District but rather the TUC-Accra Poly area, but resorted to the busy UTC-Rawlings Park direction as the police watched unconcerned.
A day before the demonstration, the Ghana Police Service went to court about the intended protest march, but the aim was not to place an injunction on it.
Accra Regional Police command Spokesperson, ASP Afia Tenge, told the media a meeting between the leadership of the main opposition party and the law enforcement agency to agree on the route to use ended in a deadlock.
According to her, the NPP had wanted to “alter” the original route – Obra Spot, Farisco Traffic Lights, TUC through Accra Polytechnic then to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and finally at the Hearts of Oak Park – but the police objected for security reasons.
But reports say the protestors defied the agreed route at the ‘Won gbo’ demonstration in Accra and rather resorted to the use of the busy UTC-Rawlings Park direction as the police watched unconcerned.
It is thus being speculated that the leadership of the opposition party have been summoned by the Police to explain why they took that particular action.
