President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that plans are in advance for Ghana to utilize opportunities that solar and tidal systems present to the energy sector.
The Ministry of Power, according to President Mahama, will soon roll out a prepaid solar metre scheme in rural areas and other areas in the nation to provide relief to Ghanaians.
The prepaid solar metres are to usher in the establishment of solar panels in the nation to resolve the power shortages confronting Ghanaians.
Delivering his State of the Nation Address, President Mahama said, the energy sector will soon see into fruition the adoption of solar panels as well as the utilization of tidal waves to generate electricity in the country.
The president also revealed that as part of his plans, the Ministry will also encourage consumers to construct about 200000 rooftop solar systems.
The solar systems to be put in place by the Ministry will be under the auspices of the Government of Ghana with an aim to encourage consumers to also embrace this initiative; President Mahama told Parliament Thursday morning. |
