We've Not Sold ECG - Deputy Power Minister Tells Ghanaians

Deputy Power Minister, John Jinapor has debunked claims that the Electricity Company of Ghana will be sold out into private hands.

John Jinapor, speaking in an interview with host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", discounted the claims and stressed that the Government of Ghana has not made such concession.

According to him, the only concession that the government is about to make is rather woo a private investor to partner Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The motive behind this particular concession, the Deputy Minister stated, is to ensure ECG streamlines its operations in order to resolve the current energy crises.

John Jinapor further disclosed that the privatization of ECG will not affect its assets and so, ECG will still have its properties in tact even in the privatization process.

Concession simply means that we want the private sector to partner with ECG. The assets of ECG, properties of ECG will remain ECG property and will not be sold. We only want somebody within the private sector who has experience and can partner with ECG, and help manage ECG with his knowledge and experience. It can even be a Ghanaian company. That is the decision we have taken.

“As we speak, we have not sold ECG.”
