Deputy Energy Minister, John Jinapor has asked political figures and socio-economic commentators to depoliticize national issues.
Contributing to Kokrokoo on Peace FM, John Jinapor bemoaned the culture where political actors in the country capitalize on national issues such as disasters for political gains.
Speaking in relation to the flood-induced gas explosion that claimed hundreds of lives at Circle, John Jinapor questioned the logic in the arguments by some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who have blamed the Mahama administration for the incident.
Some NPP critics have called on President John Mahama to dismiss State authorities who failed to execute their duties and prevent floods from occurring in the nation due to the heavy downpour.
A section of the NPP has also blamed the President and his appointees for neglecting their duties and enriching themselves when Ghanaians are suffering in the flood situations.
This notwithstanding, John Jinapor believes the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and NPP should join forces together and take precautionary measures to avert any natural disasters.
He however believed if the erstwhile Kufour government had put the right measures in place to avoid the floods, Ghana would have been a safe place even in this rainy season.
“These are real issues we must discuss devoid of politics because NDC is not going to be in power forever. NPP won’t also be in opposition forever. You’ve been in government before. Didn’t you reign for 8 years? If you had done everything, we wouldn’t be talking about floods today if it’s about leadership; thinking.
“You, people, could think. You could think well. Leadership is about thinking. You think. So, you thought well and demolished all the structures, and cleared Sodom and Gomorrah, distilled the gutters, and built such project. So, flood didn’t occur during NPP time? There was no flood?” he asked. |
