“You don’t create more problems than solving one problem…If you do that, is it sensible or insensible?” Kwesi Pratt questions Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive and city authorities for displacing residents at Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra.
The Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper was commenting on the action taken by AMA Boss, Alfred Oko Vanderpuiye to demolish structures at Sodom and Gomorrah.
Contributing to a panel discussion on PeaceFM's "Kokrokoo", Mr. Pratt wondered if the approach would provide lasting solutions to the country's perennial flooding.
According to him, the Rambo style approach adopted by the AMA Boss is not the best option since by demolishing and destroying properties at the vicinity; several residents would find it difficult to find any means of shelter.
He questioned why the residents could be allowed to make a living out of their meagre earnings only for it to be shattered by the city authorities.
An incensed Kwesi Pratt Jnr. also lashed out at the AMA boss for his recent remarks that he (Oko Vanderpuije) will continue with demolition exercise whether the residents liked it or not.
“Should public officials be speaking that kind of language? Public officials paid from the tax payers; should they be asserting that whether you like it or not, we will demolish structures? Is that how to publicly speak on an issue? Is that the right attitude?” he angrily quizzed. |
