WAEC's Directive That Candidates Must Re-Write Cancelled Papers Within 2days Most Unfair

Nana Boakye, Parliamentary aspirant for Manhyia North, has appealed to the Ministry of Education to intervene on behalf of the numerous basic school candidates whose examination papers have been cancelled.

According to him, the decision by authorities to compel students to re-write the five cancelled papers in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) within two days by Monday June 29, 2015, is unfair.

The member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications team and aspirant told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that it behoves on the authorities to give the students ample time to study.

He noted that some school children, by virtue of the fact that the papers have been cancelled, may have been psychologically traumatised.

Nana Boakye called on the Sector Minister, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, to quickly interfere and ensure that WAEC shifts the examination time table from 19th June to help the students work hard and face their future with high prospects.

Five papers namely Social Studies 2, Mathematics 2, English Language 2 among others were leaked on social media, particularly whatsapp.

After realizing the papers have been compromised, WAEC released a statement on Wednesday cancelling and postponing the papers to a later date.

The actions by the WAEC officials seem to have raged a lot of people as some critics have challenged the logic in the act.

Speaking on Kokrokoo on Peace FM, Nana Boakye noted the leakage of the examination question and answers was not the fault of the school children, so they should not be made to bear the brunt of this shameful episode.

He called on the Ministry to sanction the culprits.

“That culture is becoming very irresponsible. People are paid to work. We have placed leaders in positions to work hard for Ghanaians...and they must be held responsible," he stressed.
