NPP Communicator, Nana Boakye says Head of the West African Examination Council Reverend Samuel Nii Nmai Ollenu should immediately resign from his position over the mass leakage of some papers in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E).
Addressing the issue on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Nana Boakye, who also an aspiring Parliamentary candidate for Manhyia North, called for heads to roll at WAEC.
Nana Boakye told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the cancellation of the papers may potentially cause psychological trauma for several students.
A statement issued by the Council indicated that five papers of the examination were cancelled on Wednesday after the Council detected that they have been compromised.
The papers were English Language 2, Religious and Moral Education 2, Integrated Science 2, Mathematics 2 and Social Studies 2 as the compromised papers.
The Council therefore has postponed the examination to Monday June 29, 2015.
But to Nana Boakye, it is no fault of the basic school students that the examination papers were leaked on social media and so, the students should not be punished for the "irresponsible" conduct of the WAEC officials.
He stated emphatically that the WAEC officials should pay the price for the gaffe.
“This (leakage) has brought a huge disgrace on us. People must pay for this…There are divisional heads there. When you go there, there’s somebody in charge of examinations. There’s somebody in charge of logistics. There’s somebody in charge of PR…I think we should call for their heads. They should resign.”
“I think it is totally wrong. People must pay for some of these things. And Chairman, I think the good Reverend there; it’s unfortunate but I think he has to go.”
