Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sam Pyne has blamed the Accra flooding situation on the inadequate storm drains in the capital city.
According to him, it is the lack of desilting of choked drains and the mountainous heap of refuse left unattended to in the city that are the major causes of the flooding.
Speaking on "Kokrokoo" on Peace FM, Sam Payne bemoaned the demolition exercise that is currently ongoing at Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra.
Though admitting that structures built at unauthorized places should be demolished, he however believed the approach adopted by the Accra Mayor is wrong.
To him, the people deserve a proper resettlement package before the structures are razed down since the absence of such a provision means the affected residents would definitely be displaced.
He further called on public officials to stop the blame game and rather ensure that the right precautionary measures are taken to curb the perennial flooding in Accra. |
