A
staunch member of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), Charles Owusu
has asked former President Jerry John Rawlings to "shut up" and stop
venting his spleen on his successors over his inability to do Ghana any
'good' after 19 years in office.
President Rawlings labeled his
successor, Ex-President John Agyekum Kufour as an "autocratic thief" and
promised Ghanaians that he would never cease commenting on his
'corrupt' administration.
According to him, when people get up,
they want to create an impression to "the young ones as if the
corruption started with this man, the young man, John Mahama, no, it
started with Kufuor and that’s why I said Kufuor was an autocratic
thief.”
This, he said, regarding his successor's character.
Mr.
Rawlings, addressing students in the Volta region where he spoke as the
Guest of honour at the closing ceremony of the regional camp of the
International Youth Fellowship at the Adidome Senior High School, also
opined that former President Kufour "stole massively" during his tenure
of office.
But in a quick riposte to Mr. Rawlings' remarks, the
PPP devotee, Charles Owusu expressed disgust at the rate at which he
(President Rawlings) keep dragging his immediate successor in the mud.
According
to him, Mr. Rawlings is the "luckiest" Ghanaian leaving on this planet
because if his misdeeds were to be judged, he would have been extinct.
Speaking
in an interview with Peacefmonline.com, Mr. Owusu insisted that the
atrocities committed by the President Rawlings, if accounted for, would
have led him to his grave.
“He came to kill other people’s
husbands, fathers, wives; destroyed businesses, companies…Up to date,
there are some 300 people that we cannot find under his administration.
He says he came for the people but now he’s riding in Land Cruisers,
Pajeros, living in luxury house. He pointing hands to somebody saying
the person is corrupt…We have had a lot from this man.
“The
atrocities that he has committed on this country; the people of this
country, is so much. I wonder those that advise him. That he still has
the guts to point at others. He does not even have the right to accuse
Mahama and say, Mahama is corrupt. He’s more even corrupt than President
Mahama…His government was the worst government ever that we have had.”
He
found it very 'annoying' that Mr. Rawlings would ever utter words to
defame former President Kufour when he, to him, did worst things against
the country.
“It’s very annoying to talk about Rawlings. If you
look at where he came from, overthrowing a constitutional government. If
it’s any serious country, Rawlings should have been dead by now because
in the constitution, you don’t have the right to overthrow a
constitutional government. But he’s the luckiest Ghanaian living on
earth.”
