There He Goes Again!!! Osei Kwame 'Despite' Grabs The Queen's Relay Torch

One of Ghana's leading entrepreneurs and award-winning Chief Executive Officer of the Despite Group of Companies, Dr. Kwame Osei has again chalked another major feat in the nation's history books Saturday, January 4, 2013.


He astounded onlookers and fanatics of the Despite Group of Companies when he made, for the first time, an outdoor gesture with the Queen's Torch Relay.

Ghana welcomed the Queen's Torch Relay on Friday, January 3, 2013, ahead of the Commonwealth Games which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland next year.

Following a brief ceremony at the Airport, the torch visited the Flagstaff House where lies the seat of government, with Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur wielding it out through the Ceremonial Gate to the State Broadcaster.

The baton was then relayed from these routes in a convoy through Kanda Bypass to TV3 where the Managing Director of Prudential Bank, Mr. Sekyere Abankwah took over in ecstasy.

He also handed the baton over to the Chief Executive Officer of TV3, who displayed his stamina before handing it over to the Indian High Commissioner, Jeeva Sargar.

The torch therefore took turns and then found its way into the plush convoy again through some principal streets in Accra to Burma Camp where Former National Security Advisor Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah also accepted it and jogged while hoisting it to the admiration of passers-by.

The much-awaited torch further run past the Accra Mall, all the way to Apenkwa Junction where the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Alhassan and his entourage were warming up to experience the historic event.

Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Alhassan gleefully took the next baton and proceeded to the Tesano Police Station where the recent Peristrofi world Honorary International Awardee, Dr. Kwame Osei Despite was also waiting amidst expectant spectators.

When the Queen's Torch Relay reached the end of renowned entrepreneur and owner of award-winning media conglomerates; Peace FM, Okay FM, Neat FM and United Television (UTV); the crowd gathered were full of cheers as they kept hailing him.
Like a show, Dr. Kwame Osei stormed the place, stole the show and carried the baton from the Tesano Police Station to Abeka Junction amidst songs of commendation for him by the onlookers and his cortège.

With vehicle drivers tooting their horns and cameras shooting from all angles, Dr. Kwame strode along the streets, performed some sporadic stunts to the admiration of all and sundry.

Upon reaching Abeka Junction in front of the Ship House, he delivered the torch to the organizers.

The Queen’s Baton Relay also saw other government officials and business moguls in action as they wielded the torch across the length and breadth of the captial city.

Other torchbearers included Hon. Prosper Bani, Chief of Staff and his Deputy, Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis A. Ankrah, Professor Francis Dodoo who is the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee through to Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah (Chef De Mission), Information Minister Mahama Ayariga and Director of Ghana Television (GTV), Maj. Rtd. Don-Chebe respectively.

Ghana's finest Highlife Icon, Amakye Dede, controversial Dancehall Artiste, Shatta Wale, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Hon. Ursula Owusu and the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Doe Adjaho also graced the occasion.

The baton will go through the Manhyia Palace and over 200 school children, 70 current and former athletes, 10 High Commissioners are expected to have a feel of the baton as it continues to be featured in the country.

The Queen's baton Relay which is set to visit over 18 places will stay in Ghana for 72 hours.
