Energy Crises: Improvement Yes...But Scars Remain! - Baako Tells Prez Mahama

Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has chided the Mahama administration for praising itself over improvement in the energy sector of the economy.

President John Mahama, addressing the nation last Thursday in Parliament, recapped efforts made by his government to resolve the energy crises.

According to him, significant progress has been made in the energy sector following the introduction of the Karpower Barge and other energy intervention projects like the KTTP project.

But whiles conceding there have been improvements in the energy sector, the Senior Journalist told pointed out to Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of Peace FM's Kokrokoo that the scars of the problem remain.

He tagged the President's speech on the energy sector as "myopic and insensitive".

To Kweku Baako, the President should not overrate himself because the effects of the power crises linger on.

We’re pretending that the effects that the dum sor caused are no more. I find that a bit wierd. To use the President’s own word, it’s myopic. Some businesses shut down. Some also relocated while some workers became jobless. Those things are still here with us. So, first of all, when I hear that dum sor has ended so it means that we have achieved something, I find it a bit worrying and even insensitive," he stated.

Mr Baako revealed some energy intervention projects like the KTTP project which was abandoned due to political theatrics of the Mills/Mahama administration.

"...it was supposed to be completed 2010. It started in 2007. During the inception of the Mills administration, they found fault with the whole project citing inflation as the reason. That was political value for money auditors.

So we lost almost from 2010 to 2016, six years. We’re talking of fastest mobilization within the shortest period of time which we have used to finalize the commissioning of that project. I’m saying that look at the time we lost,” he added.
