Firing ISD Boss Just A Cover-Up... - Fanteakwa South MP

Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South in the Eastern Region, Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum has waded into discussions regarding the brochure-ridden 59th Independence celebrations of the Republic of Ghana.

Speaking on Kokrokoo onPeace FM, the NPP MP called on President John Dramani Mahama to fire the Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah for his dereliction of duty in the whole debacle.

According to him, the Minister should have vacated his office before issuing a statement to effect the dismissal of the Acting Director of the Information Services Department Francis Kwarteng Arthur.

Dr. Omane Boamah issued a statement indicating that "Mr. Francis Kwarteng Arthur has been relieved of his duties as Acting Director of the Information Services Department." The statement "signed by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, also indicated that the Ministry of Communications assumes responsibility for the Flagstaff House Communications Bureau."

In addressing the issue, the Fanteakwa South MP, affectionately called Arafat, told host Kwami Sefa Kayi emphatically that "The fired Information Service Department man is just a cover-up. In my view, the Minister should be the person to be fired. Minister of Communication is in charge of government communication whether it’s from the Information Service Department or the Castle bureau. He is the Minister. He takes ultimate responsibility."

If the departments under you mess up like this, in fact I will expect that any Minister worth his salt; a document like this he would have had a look at it. I cannot believe he did not takee a look at it . . . He’s covering up for his own inefficiencies and is rather sacking other people instead of him sacking himself."
