Calm Returns To Ashanti Region - DCOP Kofi Boakye

Calm has been restored in the Ashanti Region, DCOP Kofi Boakye, Ashanti Regional Police Commander told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' programme Tuesday morning.

According to DCOP Kofi Boakye, there has been massive cooperation from leaders and residents in the Ashanti Region to maintain law and order in their surroundings.

He revealed some collaborative efforts that the Police Administration have made to restore calm at Agogo, Obuasi, Mampong, Tafo and its environs.

He explained that the Police have consulted with the Chiefs and opinion leaders at Agogo to ensure there are no more killings in the vicinity, resulting from the clash between the residents and cattle herdsmen popularly called Fulani men.

Though he added that the Chiefs have issued an order for all the cattle to be removed from the vicinity, he believes the Police are making progress in maintaining peace at the area.

He also added that the Police are interrogating some perpetrators of the commotion that occurred at Tafo in Kumasi some weeks ago where several properties were destroyed.

It could be recalled that some Muslim youth and Christians were at each other's neck over a landmark at Tafo.

The clash between the two entities’ turned violent inviting the presence of heavy Police to disperse the angry mob.

During his interview on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo', DCOP Kofi Boakye noted that the Police declined to use excessive force on the protesters because the directive was that they shouldn't be provoked by the actions of the mob.

“The police personnel who were dispatched to the incident scene were overwhelmed by the people who were wielding cutlasses, axe and so forth. We were later able to separate them.”

However, DCOP Kofi Boakye has warned Ghanaians, particularly residents in the Ashanti Region, not to embark on demonstration wielding offensive weapons or else the Police will match them boot for boot.

He urged the people to pursue peace in the Region.
