Kwesi Pratt Jnr. of the Insight newspaper has jabbed critics of President John Dramani Mahama regarding his State of the Nation Address last Thursday.
Mr. Pratt says it is not a novelty that the President should err in his address to the nation.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi, Mr. Pratt narrowed his discussion to the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) forum at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons where the party's flagbearer delivered the "Real State of the Nation" address to Ghanaians.
Though he declined to condemn the NPP for delivering their version of the State of the Nation Address, Kwesi Pratt was surprised that the NPP is worried over counter remarks from the political divide about their flagbearer Nana Addo's speech.
According to him, the NPP should know that they will be measured by the same yardstick that the party sets against the incumbent government.
In his submission, he noted that just as the NPP believes they have a right to criticize the President and his government, they should be equally prepared for criticisms from the Ghanaian populace.
“There is nothing wrong with the opposition holding a press conference, holding a gathering, whatever and pointing out what they consider to be errors in the State of the Nation Address. But when they do theirs, just as everybody has the right to criticize the President and point out errors; every other citizen has the right to criticize the opposition and point out their errors…People have the right to criticize it,” he stated whiles contributing to a panel discussion on PeaceFM's "Kokrokoo".
Kwesi Pratt further pointed out some flaws in the NPP's real state of the nation address purporting that the party had a one-sided reflection of the economy.
To him, every government does something in one way or the other to better the economy, citing that roads were constructed during the regime of Governor Guggisberg and previous governments.
President John Dramani Mahama has also made some social interventions to improve the economy, he noted.
“If you take a picture of just one school and present it that nothing is happening, you are not speaking the truth to the people of Ghana. That is the fact. Nobody in this studio can boldly say that everything is fine and so on. It is not possible," he replied the NPP.
He was of a view that to every administration, there are mistakes for which the Mahama government is no exception.
“It is possible that mistakes will occur. Why? (In) Every government, mistakes occur" he stated. |
