A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party wants the current administration of the party to be dissolved.
Michael
Ampong, speaking in an interview with Radio Gold on Thursday, he
expressed disappointment in the party’s current leadership for
indicating that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the party’s 2012
Presidential candidate, would be given a third chance to contest the
Presidential race, come 2016.
According to Mr. Ampong, leading
party members who are lobbying for Nana Addo to run for the Presidential
slot for a third time in 2016, are only riding on his political
influence in order to remain in office.
He noted that the executives want “to exploit Nana Addo’s sympathy and popularity” and only take undue advantage of him.
When
asked whether his flagbearer should go for a review or not, Mr. Ampong
stated emphatically that it would be an indictment on Nana Addo’s
credibility to seek review on the court ruling.
He therefore
advised the NPP to take some lessons from the ruling National Democratic
Congress and reorganize itself to face the 2016 Presidential elections.
“The
NDC, whether they stole the election or not, they have shown that they
have a machinery; an effective party machinery, it doesn’t matter who
comes on board and at what time…They are capable and formidable to win
an election. Those are the good lessons we should learn.”
“From
the Chairman to whoever, they don’t deserve to be there…We need a very
thorough evaluation of our system, the NPP party system.”
