Chief
Executive of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Kwadwo Twum Boafo has warned
members of the ruling National Democratic Congress to tread cautiously
in their relationship with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According
to him, the NPP members seem to revive its past where it caused anarchy
in the nation and as a result, are bent on ruining the fortunes of the
economy.
Speaking in relation to the numerous calls on the
Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, to resign
for which the NPP plays a major role; Mr. Twum Boafo sought to remind
the ruling party of the NPP’s record.
He noted on Radio Gold,
that the “Danquah Bussia tradition has a history...And I keep talking
about their history of subversion, that is if they are not in power.
They did it to Nkrumah, forced him to have three different elections. At
a point in time, they claim they wanted a federal State; the people of
Ghana rejected them time and time again and then they resulted to coup
making. After having a coup, they chose an ethno tribal direction and
caused the death of General Kotoka.”
To him, the NPP is treading
on ‘dangerous ground’ because Ghanaians have rejected them and so,
called on the NDC to “be wide awake, open your eyes. Be very sure that
your anchor holds because these people are at it again. And they will
never relent. They would never stop. And the proud tradition that is the
National Democratic Congress has to stand out, stand strong and forget
about this business of all-inclusiveness.”
He further wondered
why the opposition party members would make calls that the Electoral
Commissioner should resign when the party and its two-time Presidential
candidate, Ex-President John AgyekumKufour benefited from his (Dr. Afari
Gyan) leadership.
“Did they know that Dr. AfariGyan didn’t have
integrity then? Did President Kufour when he became President; in fact,
in 2004, when Jake Obetsebi Lamptey went to declare elections ahead of
the Electoral Commissioner’s declaration, did they know then the
Electoral Commissioner didn’t have any integrity?” he questioned.
The NPP, he revealed, is “bent on doing something that destroys this country.”
