Sammy
Awuku, Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, has
appealed to the party members not to let their difference in opinions
about the choice of a suitable flagbearer for the party degenerate into
animosity.
Speaking during a panel discussion programme on Oman
FM, he advised the members to exercise restraint in order not to pitch a
“brother against brother” within the NPP.
He was reacting to the
controversies that the party’s 2012 Presidential candidate, Nana Addo
Danquah Akufo-Addo, will be given a third chance by hook or crook to
contest the 2016 Presidential race, as disclosed by the General
Secretary, Lawyer Kwadwo Afriyie.
Lawyer Kwadwo Afriyie,
popularly called Sir John, has for a couple of weeks ago taken to the
airwaves pontificating that the NPP cannot opt for any other flagbearer
than the obvious name “Nana Addo” who he stated categorically that even
if he’s in a “wheel chair” will be compelled to lead the party to
victory, come 2016.
But some party leading members have slammed
him for making such comments while other sections of the party have also
backed his calls.
Touching on the issue, Sammy Awuku warned the
party’s communicators to be mindful of their speeches and therefore
advised them to “put the interest of the party first. Let’s ensure that
the NPP survives this period that we will elect the party leadership.”
He also revealed that no name has come up for the flagbearer position as at now. |
