CHRAJ Boss Should Step Aside...Needs To Take A "Leave Of Absence" - Kweku Baako

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako has appealed to the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) Ms. Lauretta Lamptey to "step aside" for investigations to be conducted into allegations of malfeasance leveled against her.

Kweku Baako, addressing the allegations leveled against the CHRAJ Boss, advised her to take leave of her official duties till the truth is verified.

According to him, in view of her alleged misdemeanor, the President may be petitioned to probe her and in accordance with the constitutional provision, he (President John Mahama) would forward the petition to Chief Justice Theodora Georgina Wood.

Should the Chief Justice find a "prima facie" (that's find merit in the) case of financial misappropriation and negligence against Ms. Lamptey, she will begin investigations into the case.

To Kweku Baako, this means Ms. Lauretta Lamptey will be at the center of the investigations and so, should she stay in post, the Commission's integrity will be brought into disrepute.

Therefore, in his conviction, Ms. Lamptey should take "leave of absence", as a matter of urgency.

“All this time, she will be waiting as Commissioner? All this time, she will be presiding over the Commission to investigate issues of conflict of interest, allegations of corruption; she will be doing so all this time? What is the level of public confidence that will be in those processes that she will be presiding over?” when she, herself, is under investigation, Mr. Baako expressed his dissatisfaction.

He also doubted if calls on Ms. Lamptey to resign or be sacked could be warranted but however advised her evict herself from the Commission.

“We can’t remove her just like that. Perhaps, it should be her own interest to step aside for independent verification of all these allegations and reports to be done because of the nature of the institution that he heads,” he added.
