EC Should Have Launched Investigations Into Bloated Register Allegations 2yrs Ago - Samia Nkrumah

Former National Chairman of the Conventions People's Party (CPP) Samia Nkrumah has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to hold an independent investigation into the allegations leveled against the Commission by some political parties.

Following the 2012 general elections, opposition political parties, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP); have been calling for a new and credible voters' register.

According to the parties, the register is bloated and replete with unknown identities and names of minors, which undermines the credibility of the voters register.

Addressing a gathering at a debate forum organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) in Accra, Samia Nkrumah also supported the idea for a new voters' register but urged the EC to take necessary steps to clean the register.

We do indeed need a new and fresh voters’ register…I think the first task ahead of us as a country is to make sure the EC conducts an investigation immediately…Two years is too long and an investigation should have been conducted by the EC. The EC must show leadership and must show the way. We have entrusted them with this responsibility and we need to see action by the EC.
