Judges Are Not gods But Justice Is Defined By What They Say…When They Err; Take Them On Points Of Law

Managing Editor of the “Gye Nyame Concord” newspaper, Alfred Ogbamey has urged all political figures and the entire nation to draw lessons from the legal discipline that was instilled in two leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Making his submissions on the contempt charges that were brought against the NPP Chief Scribe, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and a member of a youth wing of the party dubbed “Young Patriots”, Hopeson Adorye, Alfred Ogbamey implored the nation to respect the Justices sitting on the pending election petition.

Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, he advised Ghanaians and political figures not to issue threatening words against the judges as the nation awaits their verdict on the election dispute in which petitioners; Nana Akufo Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey are seeking to revoke the legitimacy of President John Mahama as victor in last year’s Presidential elections.

“Justice is defined by what the judges say. Justice is not defined by your interpretation of the law is. So, let us all agree that we’re going to go through this process and where the judges give their judgement, if you disagree with them, there’s a legal process,” he noted.

The panel of judges presided by Justice William Atuguba, Alfred Ogbamey admonished, “are not gods and nobody is under the illusions that they are gods…They are human beings, they will make mistakes but when they make those mistakes, take them on the point of law. But when you go attacking their personalities, insulting them, it is a ‘no-no’. And let nobody use the excuse that the judges want to infringe upon our freedom.”
