Deputy
General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC),
George Lawson has urged the party members and the entire citizenry to
brace themselves as the nine-member panel sitting on the pending
election case before the Supreme Court gets set to deliver its ruling.
Speaking
in an interview with Radio Gold on Wednesday, George Lawson admonished
the members of the ruling party not to engage in any violent acts but
respect the verdict irrespective of the party it eventually favours.
He also pledged commitment of the party leadership to comply with the court ruling.
“We
are committed to total peace. We don’t want the peace that we are
enjoying to be disturbed…We’re committed to it and we’ll continue to be
committed to it,” he said.
He further assured the nation that the
NDC has sought to sensitize its members and hoped their pacific
initiatives will be upheld by them.
“We have sent messages down
to the grass root level, telling our members, educating them,
sensitizing them, conditioning them for whatever verdict that will come
out that they should accept it,” he added.
Meanwhile, the
hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service, led by the Inspector-General of
Police (IGP), Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, on Tuesday held talks with the
leadership to maintain law and order in the aftermath of the election
petition.
