Nii
Kwartei Titus Glover, New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Tema
East says Ghanaians should repose confidence in the Supreme Court
Judges sitting on the election dispute between three leaders of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Election Commission (EC).
Speaking
on Oman FM, Hon. Titus Glover called on the citizenry to support the
Judges, because to him, the success or otherwise of the country depends
on them as they prepare to give their verdict on the case.
Nana
Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, 2012 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic
Party (NPP), his Running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the party
Chair, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey petitioned the Supreme Court to challenge
the electoral results that saw the EC Chairman, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan
declare President John Mahama as victor in last year’s general
elections.
After several weeks of legal battle between the
Counsel for the petitioners and respondents; Electoral Commission,
President John Dramani Mahama and the ruling National Democratic
Congress, the nine-member panel set Thursday, August 29, 2013 as the
date for them to give their verdict.
Prior to the court ruling,
some political commentators and civil societies have called on the
parties to accept the ruling irrespective of direction it takes and
also, urged the loser not to go for a review.
In view of this,
Hon. Titus Glover urged Ghanaians to “back the Judges, give them that
assurance that Ghana is in their hands. If the nation will progress or
retrogress, it depends on them. We should let truth reign. If somebody
is found guilty, let’s tell the truth.” |
