NPP
Branch in the United Kingdom (UK) has denied knowledge of any leaked
tape purported to be the voice of the party's Deputy Communications
Director in Ghana, regarding the Justices of the Supreme Court and some
leading members of the party.
The NPP-UK branch, expressing its
denial of the said tape, discounted reports that Sammy Awuku's voice was
recorded during his meeting with them in London.
According to
the branch Chairman, Hayford Atta-Krufi, Sammy Awuku, though paid a
familiar visit to the United Kingdom, he however did not have any
meetings with members of the party.
Mr. Atta Krufi, speaking in
an interview with Radio Gold on Monday, revealed that “Sammy Awuku was
in London but at the time, our party had held all our meetings. We’d had
our June meetings before he came and he was not here when we had our
July meeting. Our July meeting was held on the 28th of July, he was not
in London," and so, to him, the voice on the leaked tape "couldn't be
him and the party."
Sammy Awuku, he continued, only went to
London on "a private visit. There was no interaction between him and the
party. We never had any meeting with him; so, it really surprises me
that there’s some alleged tape flying around in Ghana.”
A
supposed tape recording of the voice of the Deputy Communications
Director of the opposition NPP is currently circulating on the air
waves, igniting discussions on social media platforms and radio.
On
the tape, Sammy Awuku is heard pontificating that with the exception of
the Presiding Justice of the nine-member panel sitting on the pending
election case, Justice William Atuguba, the eight others can be said to
be sympathizers of the NPP.
But following the leakage of the
alleged “Awuku Tape”, the NPP Communicator has come out to issue a
strongly-worded disclaimer, describing the tape recording as a
fabrication intended to dent his image.
