Managing
Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has asked skeptics in
the country not to put fear in the citizenry while the nation awaits
the verdict of the Supreme Court.
He sought to defuse tensions in
the public domain as the nation awaits with bated breath the
nine-member Supreme Court judges’ final ruling on the pending election
case, the Senior Journalist stressed on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, that the
nation will definitely not become a war zone.
According to him,
“nobody will fight in Ghana. It will shock the politicians that the
Supreme Court will make its decision…and nothing will happen in Ghana
because Ghanaians are smart. Ghanaians are much much wiser than the
politicians think we are…And whoever decides to cause mayhem in this
country will face the wrath of the security services.”
He also
noted that the constitution has vested powers in the Judiciary to
adjudicate on disputes and ensure that justice takes its course.
He
therefore issued a strong warning to insurgents in the country, saying
“all of our powers to determine what is just and what is not just is
vested in the Judiciary. The ultimate court is the Supreme Court…So, who
are you to say the verdict is unfair? On whose authority do you say the
verdict is not fair?”
Also, commenting on the court ruling on
the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Lawyer
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and a youth activist of the party, Hopeson Adorye,
who were hauled before the court on Wednesday, 14th August, to defend
contempt charges leveled against them, Kwesi Pratt admonished Ghanaians
not to rejoice over the punishments meted out to the two political
figures but rather draw lessons from the latest development at the
Supreme Court. |
