Buem primaries come to a halt

The primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Buem constituency have come to halt as court puts injuction on the by-elections which were expected to be held today.

Alhaji Bello, a member of the NDC,has secured an injunction on the primaries following the disqualification of Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams, from contesting the Buem seat.

The party argued that Mr. Adams’ sanction had not elapsed and therefore his legitimacy was at stake.

The General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, indicated that until the NDC concludes “the disciplinary proceedings”; Mr Adams’ “right to participate in elections under the sponsorship of the party is extinguished.”

The by-elections were scheduled to take place today but due to the injunction, it has been put on hold till all the issues relating to Kofi Adams’ impasse with the party are resolved.

The Volta Regional Chairman of the party, George Aboagye in an interview with Citi FM noted that the injuction “bothers on Kofi Adams disqualification”, adding that he was informed that “somebody has placed an injunction on the primaries.”

He further said that Mr. Adams had intended after his disqualification that “he was not going to contest the issue neither was he going to stand even as an independent candidate.”

He however stressed that the Regional leadership would consult the party’s headquarters to take the necessary actions.
