Managing
Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has questioned the
relevance of the action taken by the Police Service in the recent
controversy regarding the former Deputy Communications Minister.
The
Police arrested the chauffeur of Ms. Victoria Hammah for purportedly
recording the voice of the Deputy Minister and leaking the tape to the
media.
Lawrence Quayeson, 34, who according to sources is Ms.
Hammah's cousin, was picked up following an official complaint lodged by
the immediate past deputy minister.
Greater Accra Police PRO, DSP Freeman Tettey confirmed the arrest.
According
to him, the police is investigating complaints by Victoria Hammah that
the driver secretly recorded her conversation, which leaked and forced
the president to sack her. She suspects the recording was done by the
driver and consequently lodged a complaint with the Mile7 police,
leading to the arrest of the driver.
But speaking on Peace FM's
flagship programme, “Kokrokoo” Mr. Pratt wondered why the driver should
be arrested over the lack of sound judgement and thoughtlessness by the
Deputy Minister.
To him, the driver should not pay for
recklessness of Ms. Hammah, who could not seal her mouth nor choose her
words carefully in order not to be in the bad books of Ghanaian
politics.
He also commended the government for sacking her to serve as her punishment over her unbridled revelations.
In a related development, Vicky Hammah’s driver has been bailed by his father after spending nearly 24 hours in cell.
The
station commander of the Mile 7 District Police Station, DSP Peter
Yembilla, who confirmed this, however stated that Lawrence Quayeson was
released without any specific charge preferred against him. |
