A
member of the ruling National Democratic Congress' legal team, Abraham
Amaliba says the dismissed Deputy Communications Minister's actions are
an embarrassment to the Presidency and the entire nation.
Addressing
the issue on Radio Gold, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba lauded the President
for his decision to sanction Ms Hammah because her character "creates a
certain impression that this is a woman who has decided to go into
politics to make money and then as it were, control people and we don’t
like that. People don’t like arrogance…” and the revelations on the tape
indicate her “betrayal reposed in her by the President, the NDC and the
people of Ghana.”
He supported the President's decision to
dismiss her from office, following her indiscreet remarks about the
activities of some government officials and to him, Ms Hammah appears to
be a woman who would use her "position to make money" as she makes
strides in the political landscape.
He also took a swipe at the
Parliamentary Appointments Committee for their inability to do a
thorough background check on their interviewees and advised them to step
up their game when vetting prospective government officials.
“Could
we have avoided this embarrassment because the embarrassment is to the
President and to Ghanaians as a whole?” he asked the Appointments
Committee.
