National
Youth Organiser of the People's National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan,
has called on President John Dramani Mahama to revise the budget for
the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
He has asked the government
not to lavish huge sums of money on the Black Stars players because
there are other pressing needs of the economy.
According to him,
it is absurd for the players to demand such amount when they are
expected to “kill themselves for Ghana and be patriotic to this
country.”
The Minister of Information, Mahama Ayariga disclosed cabinet's approval of GHC 24.6 million budget for the Black Stars.
A
statement released by the Information Ministry indicated that the
cabinet has approved GH¢10,500,000 to the Ghana Football Association
(GFA) as budget for the senior football team to participate in the first
group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
GH¢14,177,025 has also been stipulated to cover the team's expenses when they qualify for subsequent stages in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) estimated a provisional budget of $20 million to Government for the tournament.
Some Ghanaians kicked against the FA's budget proposal describing it as ridiculous.
Speaking
on Oman FM, Abu Ramadan expressed disgust at the budget approved by
cabinet. He noted that the nation is suffering and to him and expressed
that the money can be pumped into other sectors of the economy so as to
boost development. |
