Ernest
Owusu Bempah, Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic
Party (NDP) has admonished the opposition New Patriotic Party to choose
carefully in their selection of a flagbearer.
According to him,
the flagbearer position is a very critical one and so, the party should
ensure that the candidate they decide to elect to lead the party in the
2016 general elections is visionary and astute.
Speaking on Oman
FM, Owusu Bempah warned them not to choose a leader whose candidacy may
either have dire consequences on the party's fortunes.
The NPP is gearing up to elect its national executives and flagbearer who will lead the party, come 2016.
So
far, several people have nursed interest in contesting the
flagbearership but the notable ones are the 2012 Presidential candidate
of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; former Minister in the
erstwhile Kufuor administration, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku; and one-time
Flagbearer aspirant, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng.
Despite returning
from the United Kingdom where he took some rest after the landmark
election petition at the Supreme Court to overturn the legitimacy of
President John Mahama, Nana Addo has not indicated whether he would
contest the Presidential slot for the third time or not.
But reports indicate that he may not bow out but continue to pursue his ambition.
Albeit
not stating emphatically that the party should go for Nana Addo, Owusu
Bempah however noted that the party's 2012 flagbearer's vision of
providing free education for the nation cannot be underrated.
He
therefore believed Nana Addo would somehow be the best candidate for the
party, come 2016, due to the vision he had for the country.
