The
2008 and 2012 Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic
Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday confirmed his
return to lead the NPP to victory, come 2016.
He indicated that his comeback is intended to answer numerous calls on him to lead the party.
Addressing
a gathering at his Nima residence in Accra, Nana Addo expressed
profound gratitude to Ghanaians for waking him up to contest the
Presidential slot for the third time.
“When the party opens
nominations for presidential candidate sometime this year, I shall be
ready to contest the NPP presidential primaries for the 2016 general
elections.
"I have been humbled by the loyalty, the confidence
and trust the millions of Ghanaians have given to me…The message from
Ghanaians who are not NPP members including supporters of other
political parties…We have heard your message. We know who you are and
what you stand and we’re ready to vote for in our numbers in 2016. In
spite of all the disappointments of the last few years, I cannot ignore
these calls."
But though he did not proclaim himself as a Head of
State; nonetheless, the Deputy Communications Director of the National
Democratic Party (NDP) has endorsed Nana Addo as the legitimate
President of Ghana.
According to Owusu Bempah, President John
Mahama's declaration of free Senior High School education for Ghanaians
is "absolutely an automatic endorsement of Nana Akufo Addo as the
legitimate President. And it tells you that the President has endorsed
Nana Akufo Addo as the President elected by the people of Ghana."
By
virtue of the government’s quest to provide free education to Senior
High School students in the country, the NDP Communicator opined that
"it will be a terrible mistake" should the NPP "change their candidate
and bring anybody else."
Speaking on Oman FM's "National Agenda",
Ernest Owusu Bempah declared Nana Addo as the President of the nation,
explaining that his vision for Ghanaians has now found a new purpose.
To him, the ruling NDC has no better plans and policies to develop the economy.
