NPP
Youth Activist, John Kumah has slammed Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, former
Campaign Manager of the 2012 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential
candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo; claiming that he (Dr. Apraku)
has betrayed the trust of the party's flagbearer.
His comment comes on the heels of remarks made by Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku regarding the party's leadership.
Dr.
Apraku, addressing a group of past graduates from Tertiary institutions
of the NPP in Kumasi, asserted that party's leaders deserve to be
changed and purportedly called for a possible revolution if only the NPP
hopes to win power, come 2016.
He averred that, after two
successive defeats, there is the need for a re-election to "diagnose the
causes of the defeat rather than to dream to lead the party again."
Nonetheless, John Kumah, speaking to Peacefmonline.com,
believed the former NPP Campaign Manager and former Trade Minister
played an integral role in the party's defeat during the 2008 and 2012
general elections. He explained that Dr. Apraku, during the two
elections, was placed in charge of security and intelligence for Nana
Addo and so, should have worked assiduously to protect the ballot boxes
and ensured that the NPP won the elections.
He found it
contemptuous on the part of Dr. Apraku to have blamed the party's
leaders, particularly Nana Addo, for the woes of the NPP in the previous
elections.
“The attempt to blame Nana Akufo Addo in order for
him to look good in the eyes of party faithfuls is not right because he
has been integral part of the whole team that run both campaigns that
did not get us the power…I agree with those who say that he has betrayed
Nana’s confidence in him.
“Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku cannot run
away from taking responsibility if we lost on both occasions because he
played a crucial role in the defeat. He must also tell us where the
shortfalls were…”
He also advocated that Nana Addo, with his
expertise and experiences, is the obvious choice for the NPP if the
party wants to defeat the ruling National Democratic Congress in the
2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
To him, Nana is the best candidate to bring the 'elephant' back into power.
“Nana
Akufo Addo is our best bet if we want to win power as a party…if we
want to go into 2016 to unseat this present government with President
Mahama still leading the NDC as their flagbearer,” he stated. |
