The
National Executive Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may not
summon the Member of Parliament for Assin Central; Hon. Kennedy Agyapong
or rather is yet to take notice of the calls by his critics that he
should be subpoenaed by the party hierarchy, the party’s Vice Chairman
has revealed.
According to the Vice Chairman of the NPP, Fred
Oware, it has not yet become necessary for the party leadership to
summon Hon. Kennedy Agyapong before them for his remarks.
Hon.
Ken Agyapong described the party hierarchy as "thieves and corrupt" and
also dared anybody within the hierarchy to invite him.
He issued a
strong warning to the party that should any of the leaders or members
dare summon him, such individual will have to refund 1 million dollars
as payment for some paraphernalia he credited for the party in the
run-up to the 2012 general elections.
However, some party
faithfuls and critics have implored the party leadership to invite him
for questioning after Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku appeared before the Council
of Elders for making a clarion call for a change in the party's rank
and file.
They deemed it as bias in dealing with members who have allegedly debased the party.
But speaking in an interview with Peacefmonline.com,
Hon. Fred Oware, who denied knowledge of the comments made by Hon.
Agyapong, disclosed that the "National Executive Council has not called
him. The Steering Committee has not called him. The Chairman and the
Vice Chairman; they have not called him…As to whether we will call him
or not call him, it has not become necessary. Nobody has discussed it at
our National level…”
When further asked whether the NPP is
tearing apart in the midst of the accusations and allegations flying
about from party members, the NPP First Vice Chairman stated
emphatically that "there’s absolutely no conflict" in the party.
To him, it is just "sheer imagination" for any individual to suggest that there is some rift in the NPP. |
