A forty-one year old man is seeking a sum of 20000 cedis from government as compensation over his imprisonment.
Francis Ajare was imprisoned for fourteen years at the Nsawam Minimum Security Prisons without trial.
He was arrested in a Police operation at the La Beach in Accra and imprisoned without giving the right of having a judge rule on his case.
A Human Rights Court where the case has been pending over a year now is expected to make a final ruling on Tuesday, January 15, 2013; on his alleged involvement in the crime that led to his imprisonment .
Lawyer to the Accused, Francis Xavier Sosu speaking to Citi FM, noted that “As the case stands now, the Attorney General has no answer to our suit and we are looking forward to the judge taking our evidence to grant us the various releases we have asked for."
He added: “We are expecting that the judge, giving cognizance to the rules of court that when actions come before the court, they should be tried speedily and expeditiously will just go ahead and listen to the evidence of our client so he will grant us the remedies that we seek because it is clear that the Attorney General has no defense to our action”.
