Group raises concerns over Nana Oye Lithur’s ministerial appointment

A group calling itself as the Concerned Clergy Association of Ghana has opposed the appointment of Nana Oye Lithur as Minister designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The group argues that Nana Oye Lithur’s stance as a “proponent and supporter” of homosexuality could have adverse consequences on the nation.

She is known to have defended the rights of homosexuals who were vehemently attacked by some anonymous persons because of their sexuality.

According to them, her support for gay rights could be detrimental to the economy, taken into consideration the quest by some foreign countries to coerce African countries into the acceptance of gay acts.

Nana Oye Lithur was last week mentioned among the first list of ministerial appointments by President John Dramani Mahama.

Many believe her appointment as Minister designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection could have stemmed from her role as a human rights activist.

The group also took a swipe at the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Raymond Atuguba, for failing to make any recommendations to the Presidency when as Chairman of the Constitutional Review Commission, to effect changes on the issue of homosexuality.
